Finding care · A Providence care guide

What does an online doctor visit need to include here?

A form can help you explain your health history. The next question is what happens after you send it.

A live exchange matters in Rhode Island

The Rhode Island doctor rule checked on September 30, 2026 says an evaluation without a real-time, interactive exchange is not appropriate.

Real-time means you and the doctor can respond to each other during the same conversation.

  • Ask when you will speak with the doctor.
  • Ask whether you can raise questions of your own.
  • Ask what happens if the screen or sound fails.

What about a phone call?

As of September 30, 2026, Rhode Island’s telemedicine definition included live audio-only calls, but not email or fax exchanges.

That definition alone does not settle whether a phone call is enough for a particular prescription.

  • Explain what kind of connection you can use.
  • Ask which visit format suits the assessment.
  • Ask how an exam in person would be arranged.

Where will you be sitting?

Under Rhode Island law checked September 30, 2026, medical care takes place where the patient is during the encounter.

  • Tell the service if you will be outside Rhode Island.
  • Ask whether the doctor can treat you in that place.
  • Confirm the plan again if your travel plans change.
